Introduction

Fonus is a safe and useful video platform and streaming app created for children. Developed in Uzbekistan, its main goal is to deliver age-appropriate, educational, and useful content to children in a safe environment. Parents can curate quality videos for their kids, while the in-app content is hand-picked by teachers and experts to support children’s learning and development.

Fonus is not a regular video app. The platform aims to create a safe media environment for children. Harmful or age-inappropriate videos are filtered out, and users can only watch content adapted for kids. The app offers educational videos, developmental programs, cartoons, and didactic materials. As a result, the project is evolving as a local equivalent of YouTube Kids.

The project started as a startup; its initial technical architecture, MVP version, and core codebase were built by the Global Move team in Uzbekistan. The company partnered as a technical lead in the early stage and helped build the platform’s backend, mobile app, and media infrastructure. Global Move thus played a key role in Fonus’s technological development.

Solution

One of the platform’s most important features is parental control. Parents can monitor and block certain apps on their child’s device, helping ensure safe internet use. The platform also includes channel sections, making it easier for users to find the videos they need.

Fonus is available for Android via Google Play and has been downloaded by thousands of users. The platform is regularly updated with new features. Today, Fonus is growing as one of the leading local media and edtech startup projects for children in Uzbekistan. Its core audience: preschoolers, primary-school students, parents, and educators.
